The goal is to develop and deliver a next version of Phonex™ product, which is a billing system, to the market. The new version of the system should have an enhanced architecture, which extends the application area of the system. Also it should provide new capabilities, such as support for debit (scratch) cards, real-time client accounting and a real-time authorization based on the client’s account status.
·  Performed market research and examined competing products.
·  Studied the current version of the system architecture.
·  Studied technologies used with the billing systems, such as Cisco access servers (NAS).
·  Designed preliminary version of the system architecture.
·  Compiling the architecture with the use of UML.
·  Creating Prototype in Java.
·  Put together a preliminary schedule of the project implementation.
·  Divided the project on stages, making sure that each of them can be independently used with the current version of the system during the process of implementation.
·  Performed an analysis of existing DBMSes in order to select one providing the best flexibility, extensibility, and price performance.
·  Selected basic environment and tools for the system implementation, such as UNIX-platform (FreeBSD, Linux) and Java2 1.4.
